Check-In At The Best Motel Cody Wyoming Has For Yellowstone Visitors

By Lila Barry

Almost every motel Cody Wyoming has is ideally located for visitors on their way to or from Yellowstone National Park. Most visitors arriving at the regional airport or coming in by road from Powell want to continue another 50 miles beyond Cody to Yellowstone. There are decent motels dotting the landscape all the way to the east entrance of the park.

It might be better to get a handle on the lay of the land before deciding on the exact location. Travelers may drive in by road on US-14, which follows the Shoshone River as it makes its way from Powell to Cody. Some arrive directly at the airport. Both sets of travelers will have to drive through the city before getting on the 50-mile section of US-14/16/18 to Yellowstone.

The options for a place to stay begin with the airport, with motels in areas close to Beck Lake. This is a beautiful place conveniently located in between the airport and city. Lodgings near Beck Lake and the airport may be ideal for business travelers and others planning to fly back out immediately.

Most tourist service providers are lined up along or near the rectangular path the highway takes as it moves through the city. A large number of these motels can be found close to Sheridan and 17th, if not actually on the corner. There are quite a few more options further ahead on Sheridan and then again on the corner of 8th and Sheridan.

The next section of the highway which leads out of the city is Yellowstone Ave. There are a few motels here too, around the Ponderosa Campground and at Riverside Cemetery. These are ideal as a base for outdoor exploration or for visitors returning from the park. More choices lie ahead, where W. Yellowstone Avenue passes through Shoshone National Forest and the river is literally a stone's throw away.

The next collection of motels can be found at Buffalo Bill Reservoir. There are more establishments further ahead on the last leg of the drive between the reservoir and the park entrance. With so many choices in terms of locations, it's best to decide based on convenience for the planned itinerary.

As mentioned above, business travelers will likely want to find something in the city close to Beck Lake and the airport. Tourists interested in the city's attractions as well as a day out in Yellowstone should book a motel near famous points of interest. Try to find a place to stay close to Cody Night Rodeo and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.

A roadtrip warrior or outdoor enthusiast will find the area between the city and national park to be ideal, offering magnificent views and presenting a great base for scenic drives in both directions. President Teddy Roosevelt, who has an enviable record of tramping around all over the country after his presidency, once said that this drive was the world's most scenic 50 miles. A stay at a decent motel Cody Wyoming has in this area is guaranteed to be memorable and invigorating, in addition to offering rooms with stunning views.
