Carlsbad - Best Beaches In California

By Terry Hunefeld

Carlsbad is a beautiful, fashionable beach-side town just north of San Diego. It's one of several quaint beach towns lined along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. It is known for it's wide sandy beaches and picturesque downtown - the quintessential SoCal California beach town.

The North County San Diego communities include Del Mar, Solana Beach and Encinitas. Each neighborhood boasts splendid views, sunsets and cooling ocean breezes.

Legoland is a big attraction for families visiting the town. The park is alive with color and is a very pleasant theme parks for parents - as well as the kids! The lines are short compared to Disneyland and the atmosphere is comparatively relaxed for a theme park. The landscaping is lovely and parents appreciate the healthy caf with great choices.

Here are world class beaches. The State Beach runs from Tamarack Avenue all the way along the beach to downtown. There's sandy beach below and a great sidewalk along the bluff tops for sunset strolls and people watching. A little further to the south is Ponto Beach (the locals call it South Ponto). You will find a state campground on top of the bluff overlooking the ocean with stairs to the beach below.

The Flower Fields are not to be missed in the spring from March to mid-May. Here you can walk through 50 acres of colorfully carpeted fields, magnificently framed by the Pacific Ocean. An absolutely perfect combination of temperature, sunlight, soil and moisture make this the world's finest location for growing the famous "Persian Buttercups". These gorgeous flowers have graced the southern California coast for more than 60 years. The Flower Fields are at 5704 Paseo de Norte Drive.

Hotels and inns are represented by all the big chains including the Hilton. Regal Eight, Howard Johnson's and The Inn. You'll also find romantic bed and breakfasts.

If you're looking for luxury, the Four Seasons Aviara Resort is a 225 acre Spanish-style luxury resort placed on a bluff carpeted with wildflowers overlooking the Batiquitos Lagoon. Its Arnold Palmer-signature golf course is impeccably designed and laid out around the natural rolling hills of the resort. The Aviara golf course features water traps that are actually part of Batiquitos lagoon. You will find that the clubhouse offers every amenity that serious golfers enjoy and occasional duffers feel pampered by.
