Planning Your St Maarten Activities For A Vacation

By Janine Hughes

St. Maarten is a popular tourist destination in the Caribbean. People go there to enjoy the sun, warm weather and friendly atmosphere. There are various st maarten activities that you can try if you are planning to visit there.

A popular time of the year to visit is April and May, because many tourists like to attend the Carnival which is held there every year at that time. The Carnival is a colorful festival with vivid costumes, music, performances and pageants. It is somewhat similar to the carnivals held in New Orleans and Rio de Janiero. The event lasts more than twenty days and has been running for more than forty years.

St Maarten also has a vibrant nightlife, with many venues for guests to visit in the evenings. If you enjoy dancing, you can stop in one of the nightclubs along the Maho Promenade to meet new people and enjoy lively music. The Maho Promenade also hosts a nightly street carnival. If you prefer a more relaxed evening, you can take a dinner cruise on one of the catamarans around the island.

If you like water sports, there are a variety of activities you can do there to keep busy. You can go water skiing, windsurfing or jet-skiing, or try kite-surfing. If you are feeling adventurous, you can also try parasailing or skydiving at Orient Bay. Do not be afraid to try new things, even if you feel nervous at first.

If you love marine animals, you may want to check out the Dolphin Fantasies Park, where guests can see live, trained dolphins. You can also swim with them if that is something you have always wanted to do. If you love animals, but swimming is not your thing, you can try horseback riding along one of the many beaches on the island.

If you enjoy sailboat racing, you may want to visit in March when the Heineken Regatta takes place. There are numerous colorful sailboats that take part in this event. But if you prefer boats that are under the water, instead of on it, you may be interested in visiting the St. Maarten semi-submarine. The submarine is air-conditioned and allows visitors to explore underwater life beneath the waves.

Before you being to plan your activities, decide when you want to visit the island. You can go in the summer months, although you will want to be careful that the place is not overcrowded due to large amounts of tourists visiting at the same time. You can also visit in the winter months. If you do visit in the winter, the weather will likely still be pleasant, however, you will need to check if the activities you want to do will still be available, or whether they are just seasonal. You should check this ahead of time to avoid disappointment.

This is just a sample of some of the St. Maarten activities that you can try. What you decide to do will depend on your interests, your budget and whether you are travelling with children. If you are travelling with children, you should consider adding age appropriate activities for them. If you are going on your honeymoon, then you can select romantic things to do with your partner. Be sure to speak with your travel agent, who may be able to recommend other activities or events for you to try.
