By Scott Donald

Majorca is one of the more trendy vacation destinations located in beautiful Spain. Holidays in Majorca are popular because of the variety of activity and storied history. All kinds of vacationers are welcome. Palma is its capital; and if visitors are looking to take a tour, grab a bus, carriage or train here and get going.

Vacationers looking to unwind, can do so while sunbathing on their beautiful beaches. An on-the-go vacationer will value the abundance of activities that are available. Majorca is also a great place for any traveler seeking enlightenment through history and art. It accommodates all, whether there for a singles vacation, honeymoon, sporting, or family functions.

This island has been inhabited for thousands of years. The coastline of Majorca made it susceptible to attack and it has been invaded, conquered, and settled many times, contributing to an influx of cultural changes throughout the years. Islanders speak Spanish and another language called Mallorqui. Mallorqui is Catalan based language spoken locally. As with many other tourist areas, a little English is also spoken. For a visitor, learning basic Spanish phrases before coming to Majorca is quite helpful.

For the sports enthusiasts, engaging in island fun such as golf or scuba diving can be liberating. The island activities also include water skiing, tennis and horseback riding to name a few. Like most Spanish areas, a siesta is almost mandatory, so relax. It all comes alive again later.

Fare on a holiday in Majorca should include seasonal delights. Travelers should not leave before trying tumbet, an aubergine dish, or frit Mallorqui, a casserole that includes organs from fish and meat. Sobrassada is mandatory for the meat lover. Eaten quite a bit by Majorcans, sobrassada is a cured sausage made from pork.

The residents of Majorca make vacationing there easy and with its mild weather and lots of sunshine, it means vacationers can visit throughout the year.
