Many spectacular vacation destinations are historical sites and locations that host incredible wonders of nature. South America is a land that has an abundance of both and travel packages that increase the fun and adventure by combining two or more site stops in one deal. Nestled high above the Urabamba Valley in Peru, nearly 8,000 feet above sea level, lies the ruins of a centuries old Incan city. The view from the high point is so amazing as the structures, aqueducts and roadways seamlessly follow nature's flow.

After soaking in all the beauty of this ancient city, the focus moves to the wonder that is situated at the joining of Argentina and Brazil. Set amid a canopy of lush jungle greenery lies what has been deemed one of the most dramatic scenes in all of South America. More than two hundred and fifty individual waterfalls of varied heights and widths make up one undeniably breathtaking sight.

To get an idea of just how massive this display is, the incredible Niagara waterfall configuration is shorter and less than half the width. Most of these cascades in the South American complex are located in Argentina, which means visitors viewing from the Brazilian perspective are treated to a stunning scenic array. Fantastic mists that give the jungle a haunting appearance are created as the falling water crashes into the waiting river.

There are multiple ways for visitors to get great views of this phenomena. Some like to choose one of the five paved pathways for a casual walk, while others prefer to ride the trains that travel the great span. Most will agree that in order to get the most up close and personal experience, a boat excursion that actually goes under the cascading curtains is the best option.

A vacation that includes visits to both the ruins of an ancient civilization and an incredibly majestic span of waterfalls is something one will not soon forget. The beauty of nature and the unique glimpse into the past are well worth the trip to South America.
