Haida Gwaii which is also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands is an archipelago that is located at the northern part of British Columbia. The islands are separated by three boundaries. The Hectate Strait for British Columbia to the East, in the north is the controversial Dixon Entrance towards Alaska, US and in the south is the Queen Charlotte Sound as the boundary for the Vancouver Island. The most highly recommended place that you should visit is the Natural Reserve Park of Gwaii Haanas. This natural reserve is the home of some of the most endangered species. And under its protection are several rainforests. Located in the southern part of the peninsula, the reserve is one of the most protected place of the islands. If you decide to visit it, then you will know for sure why it should be protected.

The natural reserve also houses one of the preserved culture of the Haidans. There is a tour that commences every April to October of the year. The tour aims to promote awareness and recognition of the traditions that Haidans practices even to this day. The tour will also showcase the thousand years old long houses.

Located in the Naikoon Provincial Park is a cliff that measures 400 feet and was formed because of a volcanic eruption. Below the cliff is a blowhole that erupts mist when the waves from the ocean would collide into it. Another site that you should go to in this par is the North Beach where you can enjoy digging clams.

Haida Gwaii is full of surprises. It is rich with the beauty of nature not only in land but in sea as well. During spring, orca and humpback whales are the main attraction. This can be a very rewarding trip for you and your kids if you ever plan on going.

Charlottes also take pride in their arts and culture. They have a heritage center that offers shows regarding the Haidan way of life. You can also visit the Bill Reid Teching Centre that teaches fine arts. The highlight of the school is their carving department where totem poles are being made.

Haida Gwaii Museum is where you will find the colorful history of the Haida people. It can also be considered as a burial place. Many of their ancestors are buried around the museum.

Not all people in the world know the place Haida Gwaii. But seeing how they protect what they have and preserving something precious to them would tell you that it is a place worth visiting. This place would surely give you the much needed break that you have always wanted.
