Experience An Unforgettable Adventure With Jungle Tours In Thailand

By Christa Jarvis

Many people can't stand the idea of a vacation where all they do is lie on a beach. For them, a vacation is simply not worth it if it doesn't offer some way to satisfy their adventurous spirit. They want to explore the wilderness and let their inner Indiana Jones come out to play. If you're one of these people, you'll love jungle tours in Thailand.

Thailand is known as 'The Land of Smiles' for its extraordinarily friendly people. This Southeast Asian country is incredibly beautiful too, with a green interior and pristine beaches. It's rich in history and culture but also offers modern sophistication in cities like Bangkok.

Because it has so much to offer, many people view Thailand as one of the world's top tourist destinations. There really is something for everyone, from shopping in Bangkok to scuba diving around the islands in the southwest. You can enjoy food full of flavor or sip on coconut juice under a palm tree on the beach. There are plenty of spa resorts too if you need some pampering.

The one drawback of a Thai vacation is that the more popular destinations, such as Phuket, can become crowded with rowdy tourists. Luckily it's easy to escape and find serenity if you head inland and into the jungles. With 102 national parks, the country has many opportunities to see wildlife such as elephants and tigers in their natural environment and you can explore beautiful lakes, rivers, waterfalls and mountains.

There are different ways to explore the Thai jungles. You can take a short day hike near your beach resort, for instance. Otherwise, consider a trek of several days in the more remote mountainous regions and visit traditional villages. If you don't feel like making your way on foot in the heat, you can't go wrong with a tour on the back of an elephant.

Venturing into the jungle does pose some risks, so it's good to take some simple precautions for your own safety and comfort. Wear good shoes that will protect you from snake bites or scorpion stings and cover your arms and legs in loose, light-weight clothing. You'll need a good insect repellent too. A good supply of drinking water is essential in the tropical heat. It's advisable too to use the services of a guide with a good reputation, especially in regions where drug traffickers operate.

Because Thailand has a tropical climate, you can visit at any time. If you want an active holiday, though, you may prefer coming in the winter months, since these are cooler and it doesn't rain so much. In early summer, the unbearable heat will drive you to the beaches while late summer is so rainy that paths in the wilderness become difficult and dangerous to navigate.

Thailand has an excellent tourism infrastructure and there are plenty of tour operators who can arrange a trip into the jungle for you. You can find them online or in most tourist centers within the country. Some resorts will be able to help you as well.
