This limitations on the size of the track is an added safety feature as cars that go as fast as 30 miles per hour rush by. The tracks can have varied surfaces, according to the place of the competition. They can be of dirt, concrete, or asphalt.

This is why little kids get involved in quarter midgets race competitions. They use it to hone their skills as early as possible. By making a name in the said field, their chances of moving on to the more prestigious ones are double, tripled, even quadrupled.
