A Grand Turk Taxi Is The Key To Island Travel

By Liliana Mills

Transportation once you reach your destination is an important part of vacation planning. A Grand Turk taxi is a great way to get around the island whether you are seeing sites or heading out for a night on the town. Knowing how you will navigate will make your time on vacation more enjoyable and less stressful.

Grand Turk Island is located in the Turks and Caicos. It is the largest of the Turks islands and has the second largest population with nearly four thousand inhabitants. It is serviced by the JAGS McCartney International Airport which welcomes flights from various airports throughout the world. A luxury cruise ship center is also located there. It features a 3000 foot pier and also has a welcome center. It also features a recreation center for year round enjoyment.

Grand Turk was the landing spot of the Friendship 7 Mercury spacecraft, flown by John Glenn. Visitors who want to experience this part of history can see a replica of the craft on the island. It was also the discovery point for Christopher Columbus on his 1492 journey to the New World. Both are facts islanders are very proud of and willing to share with visitors.

Many come to this location for its spectacular diving. One thing that makes it great is that any level diver, from the novice who has never snorkeled to the elite, can have a great experience. A protected coral reef that drops 8000 feet is close to the shore and a beautiful underwater sight to see. Whale watchers can stay on the shore and watch the humpbacks pass.

Cockburn Town is the administrative, historical and cultural capital of Grand Turk. Bermudan architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries can be seen along every street. Virtually every building whether it is a home, an office building, a library or a church, is of architectural and historical significance.

Many visitors like to visit the National Museum. Exhibits there tell stories of shipwrecks including that of the Molasses Reef Wreck. The Molasses Reef Wreck is dated back to 1505 and is the oldest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. More history can be explored at Hawks Nest Anchorage, Fire Hill and the Lighthouse.

Perhaps the most popular excursion is to Gibbs Cay. This uninhabited island features beautiful white sand and lots of adventure. Snorkelers swim amidst colorful reef fish. You can learn to clean a conch and then eat some of the local delicacy. Swimming with stingrays is another way to experience the magic of a Grand Turks vacation. Crew members instruct and assist with this adventure to assure safety and enjoyment. As with the rest of Grand Turk, there is plenty of beach on which to relax and enjoy.

A Grand Turk taxi is a way to make great use of your vacation time. Tourist spots, shopping and dining are all just a short ride away from any hotel or resort. The drivers are like ambassadors that are happy to tell some tales of their home or point you in the right direction of just the right activity or spot for your party to eat.
