No matter what season it is, there are great, fun Wisconsin getaways any time of the year. Wisconsin is a land of many beautiful lakes so naturally boating, swimming and fishing is very popular here. In the winter time, you can enjoy ice fishing, ice boating, cross country skiing and more. No matter what the time of the year is, there is something fun to do.

Door County is a popular vacation destination. It is famous for its sweet delicious red cherries. It is a long peninsula that extends out into the majestic Lake Michigan. It gives you the feeling of being on an ocean side resort. There are a number of state parks for camping and hiking. It is fun to explore the shoreline and visit the many lighthouses. One thing you will not want to miss is the traditional Door County fish boil.

The north woods part of the state is a paradise for fishing enthusiasts. Eagle River is one the best fishing spots with lakes loaded with walleye, musky and bass. In the fall, the vibrant colors of the autumn leaves will leave you breathless. You do not have to be an experienced fisherman, the local expert guides will have you catching a ton of fish in no time.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin in Spring Green is a perfect field trip. There is also a wonderful outdoor theater nearby that puts on professional productions of Shakespeare. There are micro breweries, art galleries, cheese factories and wonderful restaurants too. The entire family will enjoy a day trip to Spring Green.

Lake Geneva is just a short drive from Chicago. It has wonderful golf courses. Kids will love the steam ships. They sponsor music and art festivals. There are some great hiking trails. This is a destination perfect for grown-ups and kids.

The state capitol, Madison, is one the best spots in the nation for bike riding. There are hundreds of miles of trails that circle around the three lakes, Monona, Mendota, and Wingra. The State Capitol is a replica of the Capitol in Washington D. C.. It offers tours every day. There is the beautiful campus of the University of Wisconsin. There are plenty of great parks. Madison has some great music clubs with fantastic blues musicians. If you love ice cream, you will love Madison because they make great ice cream there.

Devil's Lake in Baraboo is the most popular state park. Devil's Lake is a crystal clear bottomless lake that is surrounded by alpine cliffs rising above the lake shore. This is a favorite spot for rock climbers. Hiking is great here too. It is easy to understand why the Indians considered this a spiritual, enchanted spot.

The Wisconsin getaways described here are just a few of what this beautiful state has to offer. There is lots to do here. It just a short drive from Chicago and other areas so it is easy to get to. It's a great spot for a spur of the moment vacation.
