Belize Top Quality Luxury Tourist Accommodation

By Burl Schempp

Belize boasts of many places offering accommodation to tourists. The average individual establishment countrywide has fewer than 25 rooms with a select few truly remarkable luxury resorts and hotels. These exceptional resorts are consistently excellent, with an ambiance, facilities and location which amply justify staying there. Of course, there are also bad hotels which should be avoided, even if they are cheaper. Our company has developed a list of quality and moderately-priced establishments that are suitable for a wide range of budgets. My husband and I, because we specialize in Belize destinations, recently toured that country, taking 12 days to view 35 resorts.

People might think us crazy to put ourselves under such pressure. However only some of the destinations were new to us and required a more thorough investigation. With most it was simply a matter of confirming that the quality was still consistently high and being updated on any new facilities or facelifts since our previous visits. Most of the time was spent with resorts ranging from reasonably-priced, 3-star boutique lodges right up to 5-star super-luxury romantic destinations. One impression that was confirmed once more was the extreme friendliness and helpfulness of the many owners, managers and resort staff throughout the country. All the people you are likely to meet in Belize will greet you with open arms and are determined to help you enjoy a memorable vacation experience. Such friendliness would be difficult match anywhere.

My Choice of the 5 Best Destinations in Belize:

Blancaneaux Lodge Cabanas in the Magnificent Maya Mountains.

This resort is stunning. Operating under the auspices of the Francis Ford Coppola Resort banner and with an appealing rain forest setting, this is undoubtedly one of the top destinations in Belize.

Chaa Creek Lodge

This has been rightly rated as one of the best places to stay in the world. Just a short drive outside San Ignacio, on route to the Guatemalan border, it is located on a pristine 12,000-acre site. It offers comfort and casual luxury, exceptional personal service, eco-adventure opportunities and a new spa, which create a package which is hard to beat.

The Turtle Inn Resort.

This is a delightful retreat, with a romantic elegance, exceptional dining, and tastefully decorated Balinese-styled thatched cottages right on the beach. A wonderfully romantic getaway for honeymooners or couples to relax and simply enjoy the scenery.

Victoria House Casita-style Beach Resort, San Pedro.

Victoria house is kept in magnificent condition and offers an opportunity to experience true quality. With a mix of 42 rooms in private cottages on 10 acres of white sand beaches and styled, lush, tropical gardens, this is definitely one of the very best destination on San Pedro island.

The Unique Caves Branch Jungle Lodge

With 58,000 acres of land, this unusual resort offers a range of accommodation from moderate to upmarket luxury for couples and families. Spectacular treehouse suites offer amazing all-round views. As a plus, many activities such as visits to caves and visits to the fabulous Tikal Mayan ruins are included in the basic rates.

While many of the other resorts which are not on the approved list offer similar features, they are run-down and need comprehensive renovations and a outfit of fresh linen to bring them up to standard. The climate in this tropical country is hard on buildings, making proper maintenance critically important. This is not the sort of experience we would wish for our clients. As they do provide much-needed local employment opportunities and contribute to the economy of Belize we are rather reluctant to name them. Feel Free to call or email, and we will be pleased to provide a list of the many superb approved places to stay.
